Chasing Cable Cars in San Francisco

Happy Memorial Day!

Contrary to popular belief, we are not running up and down all the hills in San Francisco, chasing Cable Cars. And no, the famous curvy Lombard Street is not on the route either.

For a map of our course, go here. (This is a PDF file and you should have Adobe's free reader on your PC. But if you need a copy, go here.)

May 24th - Flashlight!

Hi!

So I'm keeping a journal of how my training is progressing. Things like what I ate before I jogged, how long between eating and jogging, how long it took me to do that particular run. Stuff like that...

The new thing to add to the list is a small flashlight for evening jogs. My friend Gina and I went out in my sub last night and it was pretty dark. The dark didn't bother me, but the fact that I had mapped out our 4 miles deep into the sub, I needed the street signs! I couldn't tell where we were in the dark not knowing all those streets so well.

Learn as we go....I need to borrow one of the kids small flashlights to take with me!

4 down 22 to master!

Last few jogs

Hey Everyone!

I did the first weekend as I was supposed to. I'm on track as far as the miles go, just working on being able to jog most of them. I guess that comes with training and time!

Jessica and I went to a shoe clinic to learn about proper footwear and apparel. I know what you're thinking...but we really learned a lot. I have a new pair of shoes, so I guess I'm ready to go?!?!?

We walked together after the clinic and of course, it rained. Maybe I should go every time it rains so I get used to it.

I also went on the treadmill at the gym this week. That was different. You seem to be much more aware of the pace you are keeping since you obviously can't slow down.

I have 2 jogs this weekend and then I'm taking Memorial Day as my rest day!

See ya soon!

First Run/Walk Outside

May 17, 2008

Hi everyone!

I went to my kick-off party to meet the team that I will be training with over the next couple of months. I'm getting really excited!

I've been working in intervals on the treadmill at the gym trying to get up to running. Today was the first day that I trained outside and of course.....IT RAINED!
I guess that is something I'm going to have to get used to, right? It's a little different working outside because of the elements.

So far I've got 3 miles (in walk/run intervals) under my belt. I'll keep you updated as I progress through my training.

What's this all about?

Welcome! Guess what I'm up to now...

I'm training to participate in a 26.2 mile marathon in San Francisco, CA on October 19, 2008.

But I'm not alone. I'm a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

I've created a website (pages.teamintraining.org/mi/nikesf08/ehughes) to securely accept donations to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS's mission. (For more information about LLS and the great work they do, go to www.lls.org.)

This blog is designed to help you keep track of my progress preparing for the marathon. I hope you will visit often to see my progress.

Thanks for your support!
